Indian Railways Ticket Cancellation Rules

Indian Railways has updated its ticket cancellation rules effective Tuesday (March 24).

Passengers will not receive any refund if a confirmed ticket is cancelled within 8 hours of departure. Full or maximum refund applies only when tickets are cancelled more than 72 hours before the journey, while cancellations between 24 to 72 hours will attract a 25% deduction.

The Railways has also introduced flexibility in travel, allowing class upgrades up to 30 minutes before departure for counter tickets, subject to seat availability via its official mobile app.

Additionally, offline ticket holders can now cancel tickets from any station, and passengers are permitted to board the train from a later station by updating their boarding point through the app.
